The National Association of Software & Service Companies (Nasscom) will prepare a capability matrix of its various member companies in the eastern region listing their specialities and skill levels.

The move comes after some companies from the neighbouring countries of Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan through their respective Chambers of Commerce expressed interest in tie -ups with small and medium IT companies of Bengal.

Mr Suparno Moitra, regional manager, Nasscom (East), while speaking on the sidelines of a programme organised by the Public Relations Society of India (Kolkata) said: “Some meetings have been held with the various Chambers of Commerce of these countries in February. And we are preparing a capability matrix of our members.”

He added that work on the capability matrix is expected to be completed by the end of March this year.

This is the first time that neighbouring countries have expressed interest about West Bengal IT sector.

Meanwhile, IT exports from the Eastern region are likely to maintain at least last year's growth of 6.02 per cent. In 2009-10, total export was Rs 6,700 crore, he added.
