The Budget may have quashed hopes of the IT industry on the tax front, but use of technology for improving service delivery was a common theme in many of the projects proposed by the Finance Minister on Monday. Together these would give the impetus to domestic market for IT services, which according to NASSCOM estimates are slated to grow 15-17 per cent next fiscal.
The Finance Minister said the National Securities Depository Ltd has been selected as technology partner for incubating the National Information Utility that will establish and operate the IT backbone for goods and services tax regime. “By June 2011, NSDL (depository) will set up a pilot portal in collaboration with 11 States prior to its roll out across the country,” the FM said.
He said so far 20 lakh Aadhaar numbers have been given out and from October 1, 10 lakh numbers will be generated a day.
