The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) today announced that it will soon start a free mobile application for Mumbaikars to enable them to pay their water and property tax bills online.
“Mumbaikars today lead a very busy life and paying their monthly bills only adds to their problems. It is, therefore, we have decided, that we will start a mobile application for citizens in the coming week, where they can avoid standing in long queues and pay their bills while on the move,” Mumbai Mayor, Sunil Prabhu, said.
The free mobile app called ‘MCGM 24X7’ will be available for Android phone users and can be downloaded from Google Play Store, Prabhu said.
The Shiv Sena-led MCGM has developed this application with the help of Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL).
For the payment of bills, the C-DAC platform will be integrated with NSDL payment gateway, he said.
“The app will enable payment of various bills like water and property tax initially. In the coming months, the facility will be extended for payment of municipal services like renewal of permits for shops and establishments, renewal of factory permit and other civic services,” he said.
On being asked about the modes of payment through the application, Prabhu said, bills can be paid through net banking, credit cards, debit cards and immediate payment service.
Those paying their bills through net banking will have to pay Rs 5 as fees to the civic body for transaction amount up to Rs 500 and Rs 10 if transaction amount crosses Rs 500, he said.
“Those using a debit card will (have to) pay 0.75 per cent of the transaction amount for value up to Rs 2,000 to the MCGM and 1 per cent of the transaction amount will have to be paid for transaction amount over Rs 2,000,” the Mayor said.
One per cent of the total amount of the bill will have to be paid as fees to the MCGM by those who use credit card for payment, Prabhu said.
A grievance cell will also be launched by November where citizens can lodge their complaints (on any problem) to the MCGM through this app, he added.
