Mobile number portability, which was introduced across the country on January 20, has received lukewarm response, with only 17.11 lakh subscribers availing themselves of the services.
According to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the maximum number of MNP requests from subscribers came from Gujarat, where 1.67 lakh users availed the facility till February 5.
“Out of these requests, around 2.29 lakh pertains to Haryana Service area wherein MNP was implemented earlier. In rest of the country, in Zone-I (Northern & Western Region) maximum number of requests have been received in Gujarat (1.67 lakhs), followed by Rajasthan (1.44 lakh), whereas in MNP Zone-II (Southern & Eastern Region), maximum number of requests have been received in Karnataka (1.16 lakh), followed by Tamil Nadu service area (1.14 lakh),” TRAI said.
