The trauma of losing a laptop will soon be over with a revolutionary new service called Laptop Tracker developed by Quick Heal Technologies, a leading anti-virus solution provider.

The launch of the service in Kochi was announced by Mr M.J. Srikant, Vice-President (Corporate Communications). He said the new technology marks the beginning of a unique synergy between corporate entities and law enforcement agencies. It will not only help the owners but will go a long way in helping the law enforcement agencies as well.

In fact, a few months ago, the company had initiated extensive talks with the law enforcement agencies and had apprised the Kochi Police Commissioner about the service. He was shown a demo on how the service will benefit the public and how the company has created a link between the user, the company and law enforcement agencies.

Speaking about the service, Mr Kailash Katkar, Managing Director and CEO, said that the technology will provide a powerful tool to the society at large and to the police force, thus reducing their burden. This is a CSR initiative by the company to help users as well as law enforcement agencies to track stolen laptops across the country.

“We look at the service from three different angles. It can help trace a laptop when it is lost or misplaced. It will also help police and law enforcement agencies in trying to trace the owners when they recover laptops. It can also be used by customers buying a second-hand laptop”, he said.

Quick Heal plans to launch the service in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Pune shortly.

For the service, a laptop owner has to register with Quick Heal on its Web site www.trackmylaptop.net through Mac-id and it keeps continuous track of where the laptop is. If the laptop is stolen then Quick Heal Laptop Tracker service traces the laptops on the basis of Mac-id and IP address. This information can then be used by the police to track and retrieve it.
