The Government has appointed Mr R.K. Upadhyay as the Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.
Mr Upadhyay is a 1975 batch officer of Indian Telecom Services and currently heads Telecom Consultants India Ltd.
The Government had appointed a search-cum-selection panel under National Knowledge Commission head, Mr Sam Pitroda, with the objective of attracting the best talent for turning around the loss-making telecom PSU. Over the past two months, the panel got in touch with as many as 20 candidates from the private sector but no one showed interest for the post citing political and labour related issues.
Stir of a different kind
About 3 lakh employees of public sector telecom carrier BSNL will begin a stir of a different kind on May 1, the International Labour Day. BSNL unions have formed a Joint Action Committee and approached the management to prepare a salvage plan.
