The Oracle India Managing Director, Mr Bhaskar Pramanik, is quitting the company. According to sources, he is expected to join Microsoft.

In response to a query from Business Line , a company spokesperson said: “We confirm that Mr Bhaskar Pramanik, Managing Director, Oracle India, is resigning from Oracle to pursue other opportunities. The new Managing Director of Oracle India is Mr Sandeep Mathur, who was previously Vice-President, Technology, leading the company's Database and Exadata business in the country.”

Mr Pramanik joined Oracle a year back, replacing Mr Krishan Dhawan as the India head. Prior to that, he was the Vice-President of Global Commercial Systems Sales at Sun Microsystems. A veteran in the IT industry, with over 30 years of experience, Mr Pramanik's previous stints include senior positions in Digital Equipment India Ltd, Blue Star and NELCO.

Mr Pramanik is expected to join Microsoft, said sources. Last month, Mr Ravi Venkatesan stepped down as Chairman of Microsoft India. When contacted, Microsoft said it has not made any decision or announcement regarding his successor. Mr Venkatesan told Business Line that it would not be appropriate for him to comment on who his successor could be.

Mr Mathur, who will take over from Mr Pramanik, joined Oracle in 2003 as Vice-President, Tech BDC team. Prior to this, he was the Chief Marketing Officer for Phoenix Global Solutions, the India Country Manager for Lotus Development Corporation (an IBM Company), and Sales Manager at Tata Consultancy Services.
