Mr Hussain Mohammed Al Mahmoudi, Director-General, Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on Tuesday inaugurated the Science and Technology Innovation Centre (STIC), a partnership venture between Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Infopark Kochi.

STIC has been set up as a platform to provide Sharjah-based businesses access to talent and knowledge-based resources in Kerala. It will help develop and launch sustainable models in business and technology, provide linkage between R&D and the market, as an interface between the education sector and the business world; nurture creative innovation and entrepreneurship and provide seamless exchange of knowledge between private, public, government and other segments.

The first three projects to be launched to achieve the objectives are: Business Integration Bureau, a platform to provide business support to Kerala-based organisations to access the international market; E-Directory — an electronic platform for publishing for Kerala-based companies and E-Publication, an online magazine for publishing the activities of Kerala-based organisations.

Business bridge

Mr Al Mahmoudi said the purpose of the centre is to create a business bridge between Kerala and West Asia. The Centre will pave the way for Sharjah-based firms to use Kerala as a technology corridor with investment opportunities and vice versa. He also invited a Kerala ICT delegation to visit Sharjah with the aim to attract IT-related business to be outsourced to companies in Kerala and work towards sharing expertise with SCCI and other Sharjah organisations and to help the Emirates set up an IT Innovation Centre to house business development teams for the Gulf and West Asian region.

Mr Binu Pazhoor, CEO, Infopark Kochi, said the centre has been set up to facilitate exchange of knowledge between Emirates of Sharjah and Kerala. It will help businesses from Sharjah and Kerala actively engage and transfer science and technology from the lab to a global community to spearhead knowledge-intensive industries and companies.
