The Trivandrum Management Association (TMA), an affiliate of the All-India Management Association, will organise a State-level seminar and exhibition on ‘Mobile number portability (MNP) in Kerala.'
To be held on April 27 here at the YMCA Hall, the event will seek to critically analyse the issues involved in MNP facility from the customers' as well as service providers' viewpoints, according to Dr M. I. Sahadulla, President, TMA.
MNP ADVANTAGE
The event would also aim at familiarising the public with the various fancies attached with the newly introduced facility, he added.
Each participating service mobile service provider will set up an information kiosk/booth from 10 a.m. till 8 p.m. to the benefit of the visiting customers.
Basic information ranging from advantages of MNP, how to use/avail of the facility, formalities to be followed in changing numbers, various offers made by each company for MNP subscribers to availability of fancy numbers would be made available, along with their other products and services.
The exhibition will be followed by a public lecture on ‘Mobile Number Portability in Kerala: Role of service providers and advantages to customers.'
BETTER ACCEPTABILITY
Mr Premachandra, Chief General Manager, BSNL, Thiruvananthapuram, will inaugurate the public lecture at 6.30 p.m.
State-level heads of all mobile service providers have been invited to address the lecture, share their experiences, and present features about service delivery.
Dr Sahadulla said it is interesting to note that within two months of introducing the facility, a substantial number (around 38 lakh) of customers have registered for changing their mobile service providers while keeping the same number.
In Kerala alone, an estimated two lakh customers have applied for this facility. Several corporates also are thinking in terms of changing their service providers.
VARIED OPTIONS
At the other end, different service providers are offering options such as fancy numbers and competitive tariff rates.
But the TMA has observed that there is no facility available for the customer to compare these offers, including from State-owned BSNL.
It is against this background that it is providing a platform to showcase MNP capabilities of service providers under one roof, for a whole day.
The seminars and exhibition will be open to professional bodies also and the general public, Dr Sahadulla said.
