A new attack specifically targeting BlackBerry's SMS feature is doing the rounds.
Trend Micro researchers, who spotted a Zeus Trojan targeting BlackBerry users, said this variant did not display any graphical user interface (GUI) for prompting users about the infection, just like its desktop counterpart.
“This Trojan monitors smart phone users' private information, particularly when they conduct mobile online banking. As more users access the Net from expanding pool of devices, Web threats will continue in size.
“As criminals devise ways to make money out of exploiting mobile technologies, mobile users will become extremely vulnerable,” said Mr Amit Nath, Country Manager (India and SAARC), Trend Micro.
Cybercriminals, according to him, should have a profitable 2011 as there is a growing use of mobile devices and growing diversity of operating systems among companies.
“The criminals will try to put a new spin on social engineering by bombarding recipients with emails that drop downloaders containing malware.”
