However, the company said now it is finalising the plans with Google and very soon get a clear idea.

“It is a new product for both Google as well as Asus, so we need to have full co-operation for that. Our product will be Nexus 7 for the Indian market and it will be launched within first half of this year,” Peter Chang, Regional Head – South Asia and Country Manager, System Business Group, Asus India, told Business Line .

Talking on the sidelines of its latest product launch MeMo Pad, he said Asus India is working on various products for the Indian market with innovative technologies and would launch them accordingly.

In a recent interview with this newspaper, he had said that the company will launch four tablet PCs in the near future priced ranging from less than Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000. Tablets above Rs 10,000 will have SIM-card slots that will allow users to make voice calls.

The MeMo Pad -- priced at Rs 9,999 -- is the first sub-Rs 10,000 product to be launched by the company for Indian consumers.

“After offering various mid- and high-end products in the Indian market with innovative technologies, we believe it’s time to bring the same grandeur to the low-end market,” he said.

The MeMo Pad is an Android based 7-inch tablet that has 8GB internal storage and a Micro-SD slot that supports up to 32GB extra storage. The company said it has up to seven hours of battery life.
