Bengaluru-based bike taxi company rapido launched its operations in the city, taking its total tally in the State to four cities.

rapido currently operates in over 25 cities across the country and in Tamil Nadu, it is present in Coimbatore, Madurai and Tiruchi, which together contributes around 7,000 rides daily.

“Our target is to add 15,000 rapido captains (riders) and clock 50,000 rides daily in Chennai by the end of this year,” said Sharavana Kumar, Regional Manager, rapido.

rapido, which provides alternative commuting aimed at solo commuters, is gradually expanding its presence to more cities across the country.

“We will launch our operations in Salem by the end of this month,” Kumar said. He added that the company is very serious about safety of women customers and has put in place ‘call masking system’ to protect the mobile numbers of women customers being shared with the riders.

“We are also planning to onboard woman captains to attract more women customers,” Kumar added.

As a introductory offer, rapido offers a ride up to 3 km at ₹19.
