French IT services firm Capgemini has announced big plans for India. It is going to recruit close to 40,000 people in India by 2015 as part of its strategy to increase its offshore base. The Indian operations now employ 37,000 in a total of Capgemini’s 1.20 lakh employee base.

As it increases India strength, the company also launched a focussed sales pitch by appointing about 50 people based out of India to sell the location.

Addressing a group of reporters from India at company's headquarters here, Mr Paul Hermelin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Capgemini, said the ratio of onshore and offshore employees is reduced to 63:37 in 2011 from 65:35 in 2010. “We would like to make this 50:50 by 2015, explaining the reason behind the plans to recruit more in India.”

Geographical mix

The company, with majority of its business coming from Europe, is in the process of increasing contributions from the North American and emerging countries.

The contribution of Europe fell to 72 per cent in 2012 from 80 per cent in 2010 in overall revenues, while that of North American market increased to 20 per cent from 18 per cent during the period. The contribution from emerging countries went up to eight per cent from two per cent.

In 2011, it reported revenues of €9.69 billion, with public sector business contributing 24.3 per cent, followed by financial services with 20.8 per cent.

India Direct Sales

Early this year, the company launched the initiative India Direct Sales as part of its plan to make India a global delivery hub. The India based sales team will reach deeper and wider with services and products built in India. It would also work to respond quickly to customer needs and bring down the overall cost of selling.
