The common complaint of smartphone users is the frequency with which the instruments have to be charged and the time that it takes for the charging.

Many leading smartphone makers have made this a focus area, to increase customer satisfaction.

With iPhone leading the industry in improving the charging speed, it has become imperative for other phone companies to work on improving charging speed.

Oppo, maker of camera phones used by over 20 crore people around the world, is betting on its innovation in improving the charging technology, to drive growth.

VOOC Flash charge

According to Chen Tian, Oppo Hardware Technical Expert and core developer of VOOC Flash charge, it has twin benefits — it’s fast and safe. A user can charge for five minutes and talk for two hours.

“To enhance the safety, five layers of protection have been provided. Built into the adapter are voltage tester and VOOC identification, while VOOC identification, Voltage Test and Fuse are built into the phone,” says Tian.

In the era of 2G/3G phones, usage frequency was lower as the phone was mostly used to make calls or send messages. The battery capacity was smaller in these phones and power consumption was also low. Users would charge their phones once in days or use spare batteries.

But flash charge has become very relevant in the era of 4G phones. With users constantly using the phone to surf the internet, be on social media or for entertainment, the battery size has grown larger, taking more time to charge and consuming more power. These phones have to be charged every day and sometimes through the night.

Oppo’s VOOC charger was first introduced with the launch of F1 Plus in India.

Now, with the launch of its OPPO Find X, the brand has introduced a smaller and smarter flash charge technology that is touted to be twice as convenient.

VOOC has replaced the voltage reducing circuit with an MCU, effectively preventing a mobile phone from overheating while charging.

The LED indicator lets the user know the status of the phone charge without having to activate the display.
