Clean Sports India (CSI) – a forum of former national sportspersons from India, which wants to create an environment for managing sports associations and clubs in the country – is planning to take the help of Infosys for training its members in leadership qualities and administrative skills.

Speaking to Business Line on the sidelines of a meeting to announce the launch of Mangalore chapter of CSI, Reeth Abraham, former Indian athlete and Joint-Convenor of CSI, said that the forum wants to clean up the sports administration in the country, as a majority of the sports administrative bodies are under the clutches of politicians.

Stating that sportspersons should run these organisations, she said CSI wants to conduct a training programme for its members on leadership and administration.

“We have approached Infosys for training. The first batch of sportspersons from Karnataka, including Arjuna award winners, will be taken to Mysore for a two-day programme,” she said.

Asked when the programme is likely to be conducted, she said: “We are hoping for this programme in the second or third week of March. The programme will focus on areas such as administration and leadership qualities.”

She said that CSI has initiated activities such as runs, discussions and seminars to educate people and to create public opinion against the mismanagement of sports by non-sportspersons, especially politicians.

Reeth Abraham said that CSI also wants to create an atmosphere wherein Olympic sports in India are practiced and competed without any influence of drugs.

CSI, which was founded on June 23, 2010, has opened its chapters in Mumbai and Bangalore. Plans are there to open Mangalore chapter soon, she added.

Former Indian hockey player Pargat Singh is the President of CSI.
