Chinese mobile phone brand Coolpad has launched its latest smartphone Cool Play 6 for India on August 20.

At the launch in Dubai, the company unveiled the price at which it will be available in India — ₹14,999. An Amazon exclusive, it will go on sale on September 4.

Speaking at the event, global CEO James Du said India and the US have become the largest market for the company. “Coolpad’s overseas sales increased by about 20 per cent in the first half of this year, and in America, it increased by about 30 per cent in the last year.” Talking about his vision of extending his products to 47 countries, he emphasised that India is a strategic market for the company and that the company would invest more.

Coolpad India CEO Syed Tajuddin said, “Almost all products that were launched in India in the last two years have become successful.” He stressed that the phone was not a work of Coolpad alone. “This product has been designed with Amazon for the India market with modification and some aggressive pricing.”

Cool Play 6 was launched earlier this year in China.

With a view to making this a gaming smartphone, the 5.5-inch device boasts of a metal body, 6 GB RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, and is powered by Snapdragon 653. It sports a dual rear 13MP camera and 8MP front camera. Its features include a slow motion video, GIFs, a pro mode and 4K videos, among others.

It comes with a fingerprint sensor at the back, 3.5 mm headphone jack on top and dual speakers at the bottom.

It is also packed with a 4000 mAh non-removable battery, which claims to have a standby time of 300 hours. The phone has a dual-SIM card slot (nano) and a type-C USB charger. It will come in two colour variants, gold and black.
