Indian companies remain at the risk of cyber attacks and data thefts, more so if they are medium-sized ones.

However, they are also not always aware about the threats such cyber attacks pose, according to Mamata Binani, Vice- President, The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), said on Saturday.

According to her, the FIB data shows that at least 24 “big attacks” happen every month globally. And in this context, companies must be aware about the threats to their data and take appropriate protection in this regard.

Apart from having firewall (to protect database from being hacked); other precautions like using genuine anti-virus software and maintaining safety while transacting on the Internet too needs to be looked into, Binani said.

“Nature of crimes mostly relate to data theft,” she said on the sidelines of the ICSI IT – Legal National Conclave organised here in the city.

The conclave aims to create awareness about the risks of cyberspace and the preventive measures. According to her, similar workshops will also be organised nationally in the coming days.
