The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has clarified that the new broadcast regulatory framework does not prohibit the service providers from offering discounts in Network Capacity Fee for second or additional TV connections in a household.
TRAI has set the maximum cap for Network Capacity Fee at ₹130 for 100 SD channels and ₹25 for the slab of next 25 SD channels.
In a statement on Friday, the regulator said, “However, it may be noted that such discount needs to be uniform in the target market area of the respective TV channel distributor and duly declared by the Distribution Platform Operator,”. Earlier this week, the regulator had asked all distribution platform operators to publicly declare the schemes for Network Capacity Fee on their Websites.
The regulator had also said that each set-top box should be treated a separate connection.
