HP Inc believes that it can replicate the success of the rest of the product lines with the relatively new refillable ink tank printers and the A3 printers.

Value for money that ink tank printers offer high volume users, strengthening of the A3 product line and service network will contribute to expanding these products’ market share.

New printers

The laptop and printer major entered the refillable-ink tank printer business with the launch of a new series, targeted at the affordable, high volume users job work segment.

“We have gained close to 20 per cent share with two products. We would like this to be in line with the market share of over 40 per cent that we have for other products,” Raj Kumar Rishi, Senior Director & General Manager – Print Business, HP Inc, told BusinessLine . These ink tank printers are positioned between the LaserJet and Inkjet models.

It offers a Wi-Fi-enabled model at ₹12,000, and one without Wi-Fi facility at about ₹10,000. Earlier, customers would have had to settle for a high end of inkjet or a cheaper LaserJet printer. The advantage of these printers is cost, as low as 10 paise per page – a major differentiator, he added. But unlike other products, this segment requires installation by vendors. The company has appointed new service providers across the country.

HP is also eyeing faster growth in A3 printer segment. While A4 printer market in India is estimated at ₹300 million, A3 market is just half of it. But globally, it is 50:50.

It is hoping for a stronger growth curve once the ongoing acquisition of Samsung’s A3 printer business by HP is completed. “Samsung has a great product line up. Supported by our own innovations and large dealer network, A3 product segment will also fuel our growth,” said Rishi.

For HP in India, multi-function devices such as all-in-one (print-scan-copier) are growing faster than single function ones. It has a overall market share of 47 per cent in the Indian printer market.
