Socure Inc, a US-based provider of identity verification and fraud prevention services, on Monday opened a development centre in the city.

The centre will not be just an offshore facility but will be involved in the entire Software Development Life Cycle right from strategy to product specification, and the final product.

The centre now has 15 employees, with plans to double the number by the year-end, said Tom Thimot, CEO, Socure.

On why the company chose Chennai, Thimot said it was due to the availability of talent, particularly data scientists, and the low attrition rate when compared with nearly 50 per cent in places such as Bengaluru or Gurugram. There is a high level of loyalty among employees in Chennai, said Thimot, who had worked with Cognizant Technology Solutions for nearly four years. Currently, Socure’s solutions are being used by over 100 banks, lenders and payment providers globally to process and verify over 100 million consumer identities.

The company, present only in the US, plans to tap the Indian market by year-end or early next year, he said.
