With cyber security threats in the country becoming rampant, there is a need to create a Central agency that can act as a one-stop centre for all issues related to cyber space.

Rudra Murthy KG, Chief Information Security Officer (Digital India) at the Home Affairs Ministry, feels there has been a delay in decision making and lack of coordination between a host of departments and agencies across various States.

“The lack of coordination is leading to delays in investigations. There is an absence of an integrated approach (in tackling cyber threats),” he said.

He was addressing the third edition of the Cyber Security Conclave organised by the Society for Cyber and Security Council (SCSC) here on Monday.

Stating that there is a need for a national-level agency headed by a Secretary-level officer, he said the body could take care of all aspects of cyber security, ensuring accountability and availability.

Roland Cloutier, Staff Vice-President and Chief Security Officer of human resource software company ADP, said organisations need a broader perspective on evolving a security plan. “Living and defending inside our own box (organisation) won’t be enough. It’s almost impossible to do that unless organisations understand the completeness (of the threat perception),” he said.

Bharani K Aroll, Secretary, SCSC, said: “We have come up with a four-point agenda for our cyber security initiatives. Besides building government-industry partnerships, we organise workshops for cyber security professionals, awareness campaigns for end users, etc. Also we work on thought leadership sessions for enterprises.”
