NTT DoCoMo, Japan’s biggest telecom operator by subscribers, is yet to offload its entire 26.5 per cent stake in Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTSL), even after its June-end deadline expired. In April, the Japanese company said it intends to exit the Indian company after it failed to achieve certain performance targets specified in the agreement between the two companies. “As also stated by NTT DoCoMo, it is not possible to predict how events will unfold; however, Tata Sons is cognizant of its responsibilities, and will act keeping in mind the interests of all stakeholders and in accordance with law,” a Tata Sons spokesperson said. The Japanese company had acquired the stake in March 2009 for $2.7 billion (₹13,070 crore at the then exchange rate).
