Samsung India Electronics has launched Galaxy S6 Edge+, a premium category smartphone featuring dual edge display for better multimedia experience.
Priced at ₹57,900, the new phone will be available in retail points from August 28. It will be available in gold platinum and an all new silver titanium colour with 32GB memory, said Asim Warsi, Vice-President, Marketing, IT and Mobile, Samsung India. Pre-booking is already on, he told newspersons.
Today’s launch was the 17th this calendar year by Samsung across all categories, including smartphones, mass segment phones and tablets. Many more are lined up for the rest of the year, he said without giving any details.
Among the key difference between Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy S6 Edge, which was launched in April, Warsi said that the new phone is 5.7 inch in size while the earlier model was 5.1 inch. The capacity of the new phone is 4 GB RAM while Galaxy S6 edge was 3 GB RAM, he said.
Live video feature One of the key features in Galaxy S6 Edge+ is the Live Broadcast, which Warsi claimed was the first in any phone. This feature lets users share live video in full high definition quality straight from the phone to any individual, group of contacts or even the public through YouTube live. Anyone who received the YouTube link will be able to see live stream video from a smartphone, tablet, personal computer or Smart TV, he said.
The Indian R&D team has been involved in the development of various key features in the smartphone such as the live video broadcast and camera, he said.
With around 35 players, including Indian and Chinese, present in the smartphone, Warsi said with the kind of market growth there is enough room for growth in this segment. “Staying true to our ‘Make in India’ commitment, the Galaxy S6 Edge+ will be manufactured from our Noida facility to meet the demand of the Indian consumers,” he said.
Samsung has invested ₹517 crore for the expansion of the Noida plant under the UP Mega Policy.
Samsung India Electronics, which completed 20 years in India, has three research labs and two manufacturing plants in India with a total of 45,000 employees, he said.
