Mumbai-based ZK Meditech Labz has developed a downloadable smartphone application to check blood haemoglobin levels without any physical blood sample pathology test to identify anaemia.

The new smartphone application called the ‘HB Meter’ is currently available for Apple devices, where all a patient has to do is to keep his index finger on his smartphone camera and wait for 30 seconds for the application to measure haemoglobin as well as anaemia levels and display results on the screen, application developer Zahid Shah told PTI here today.

Anaemia happens to be the most common blood disorder and current methods of haemoglobin testing requires blood to be taken from a vein with a syringe manually for a pathology test. The ‘HB Meter’ application saves time taken to visit a blood pathology lab or a nearby hospital as well as the pain of giving blood samples, Shah said.

Currently, the application is available only for all Apple iPhones, but it will soon be available for Android mobile devices, he said.

The paid application may be downloaded from online mobile application stores, Shah said, adding that the company has received good response in terms of downloads from USA, Canada, Australia and India.
