Indian fans of Google Glass will have to wait to experience the gadget.

According to a top executive at Google, the company is still working on developing more applications before it can be launched in the Indian market.

Google Glass is a wearable computer with a head-mounted display that flashes information in a smartphone-like hands-free format. It enables access to the Interact via natural language voice commands. It looks like a pair of spectacles, but carries out functions such as clicking pictures and videos that could also be instantly uploaded on social media platforms. The product was unveiled in 2012. Google CEO Larry Page had indicated it would be priced around $1,500.

“We have given it away to a few thousand apps developers in the world. We had asked them to give us a description why it makes sense for them. Let them develop some more apps so that there is more economy of scale, it becomes more useful,” Nikesh Arora, Senior Vice-President and Chief Business Office, Google, told reporters here.

He said there are people who have already signed up to buy the wearable computer. The product has not been launched for consumers anywhere in the world.

Key market

On the scope of such technologies in India, Arora said though India is an important market for Google, the country has a lot of catching up to do on the infrastructure.

For example, in the digital advertising space, it is far behind compared to many other countries. Arora said there has not been change in advertising model from radio, television or print medium.

He said there is a lot change happening around the world, especially with the evolution of generation of people and devices. Arora cited an example saying from 10 years from now, we may not see text books, as every thing is getting digitised.
