Nokia today launched the PureView 808, the first smartphone to feature a 41-megapixel sensor camera in India. The company also announced its collaboration with Dolby Laboratories to bring cinematic sound to its handsets.

Calling it the frst super-camera smartphone, Nokia said it had been working on integrating this technology in smartphones for five years now. The inclusion of Dolby Digital Plus transforms the smartphones into devices that are capable of delivering high-definition content in 5.1 surround sound.

With an HDMI cable, users should be able to relay high-def content on to their HD television sets or other HD displays. The Nokia PureView sports a four-inch AMOLED display with ClearBlack technology. The handset comes with 16GB of internal memory which can be expanded up to 48GB with an external memory card. It's also one of the few phones currently in the Indian market that support Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology.

To leverage the hardware and software built into the tablet, the company has also included a suit of apps that include augmented reality and advanced photo editing apps.

Speaking at the event, Mr Vipul Mehrotra, Director and Head of Smart Devices, Nokia India said, “In the past, entertainment was confined to the living room but the current trend witnesses more and more entertainment available not only at home but on the go.” He also mentioned that a software upgrade for other Nokia smartphone will bring Dolby's technology into those devices.

The handset is available in two colours — black and white and retails for Rs 33,899.
