Cutting through the clutter of dating/matrimonial websites and apps, is a brand new app called Betterhalf.ai, that claims to be a “true compatibility” partner search product, using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for independent working professionals to find their better halves.

Unlike other platforms that attract very young users, Betterhalf.ai is targetted at users who fall in the age profile of 27 to 38, and competes with traditional matrimonial sites such asShaadi.com and BharatMatrimony.com which attract close to three million users every year.

“Betterhalf.ai is not for dating, but a serious partner search product that does not go by the usual parameters of height, weight, complexion, caste, religion and hobbies to arrive at a match. Compatibility scores thrown up by our advanced AI algorithm are based on relationship dimensions, that help working professionals find relevant matches. As users keep using the product, more relevant data is gathered, making matches more compatible over time” Pawan Gupta, co-founder and CEO, Betterhalf.ai told BusinessLine .

Thorough process

While the Betterhalf.ai website was launched in March, garnering over 7,000 users, the app, which was launched in mid-December, has already seen 5,000 downloads with over 70 per cent of the chats resulting in extended interactions. Each user goes through a rigorous 6-level profile verification process, including their mobile number, work e-mail, personal e-mail, Government ID, Facebook and Linkedin. Only profiles that receive a compatibility score of over 70 per cent are matched.

To register on Betterhalf.ai, a user needs to answer 16 questions based on social, emotional, intellectual and relationship values. Registered users get at least one matched profile a day, while paid users get 2-5 matched profiles a day, for 3/6/12 month packages ranging from ₹5,999 to ₹15,999.

“There are 5 million working professionals in India, and 1.5 million NRIs whose needs we are addressing with Betterhalf.ai. We currently have 10,000 users from 4,000 unique companies including Accenture, Amazon, Facebook, Adobe, Axis Bank, Cisco users and 30 per cent of our users are entrepreneurs, fashion designers, scientists and bankers. We are aiming for a one-million user base in the next two years” said Gupta.

Betterhalf.ai was founded in 2016 in the US with an office in Bengaluru by Gupta and Rahul Namdev, both MIT USA alumni, who were repeatedly disappointed with numerous dating apps that failed to match their profiles with relevant users.

“Our target age-group directly correlates to the seriousness of the intention to find a partner, and backed by advanced technology, we are confident that we will attract quality, non-casual users, that will change the future of the partner search journey forever” said Gupta. In October, Betterhalf.ai received seed funding of $500,000 through Angel investors and has raised about $750,000 to date.
