Venture capital firm Orios Venture Partners, whose lead investments include companies such as OlaCabs and Druva, has invested an undisclosed seed amount in an IIT-IIM startup Taskbob. Mayfield, a global, early-stage venture capital firm with over $2.6 billion under management, has also participated in the funding round.

Taskbob, a hyperlocal mobile application-based startup that helps users fix their homes, is based out of Powai and is rapidly expanding operations to other parts of the city.

Gopal Modi, Vice-President, Orios Venture Partners, in a statement said, "The customer is constantly struggling to get dependable utility services at home and is rarely able to get a vendor at his time and convenience. The business addresses this core pain point of the Indian household. We see this as a large addressable market of over 100 million households using TaskBob services at least three to four times a month."

Aseem Khare, CEO and founder, says “There is a lack of reliable and convenient home services in India. Our vision is to fill that void by providing a modern household management service, with which we hope to rid consumers of the unreliability that currently exists in the sector.”

The current scenario is that consumers reel under extremely poor accessibility of these services, owing to the disorganised and scattered nature of the workforce.

TaskBob aims to simplify the process right from finding a serviceman to ensuring the service is completed using an easy-to-understand mobile-app interface. While there are a few other start-ups trying to solve this issue, bigger players are also trying to explore the segment. Amazon has launched local services in the US and plans to bring it to India. The home-grown Snapdeal has also launched services such as plumbing and fixing in a few cities.

Nikhil Khattau, Managing Director, Mayfield India, added that the use of mobile first technology to deliver on-demand, hyperlocal services, bring efficiency to the disorganised home services value chain.
