A landmark event that has been bringing together watch lovers and manufacturers since 1991, the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie was held for the 22nd time this year at Geneva. Held in the third week of January, the show brought together 16 of the biggest watch brands across the world to showcase the best of their collections as well their new launches. From A. Lange & Söhne and Cartier to Panerai and Piaget, some of the biggest names in horlogerie came together to celebrate the art of watchmaking.

Piaget

The World’s thinnest automatic gem-set skeleton watch was revealed at SIHH 2013 by Piaget – the Piaget Altiplano. The entire gold mainplate and functional parts of the watch have been gem set, bringing together the art of wathcmaking with the sheer elegance of jewel-setting. The end result is a watch that is as beautiful as it is a perfect machine. The Altiplani case is made of 18k white gold and set with hundreds of diamonds along the bezel as well. A black alligator leather strap completes the look of this watch that is truly fit for a king.

Panerai

Perfection in a sports watch seems to be the USP of Panerai’s Luminor 1950 Rattrapante 8 Days Titanio – the watchmaker’s sophisticated new addition that was launched at SIHH. The split-second chronograph – which gives it the name ‘rattrapante’ – has a hand-wound movement with a long power reserve of 8 days, a traditional duration for Panerai watches. The polished titanium bezel has a simple and elegant black dial the super lumi-nova layer provides great visibility in low light conditions as well. With a sporty rubber strap and titanium buckle, this piece is definitely a must have.

Vacheron Constantin

One of the oldest watch manufacturers in the world, Swiss brand Vacheron Constantin showcased the Metiers d’Art - Florilege – a collection of watches exclusively for women, inspired by the delicacy of the English botanical illustration from the 19th century. The three watches feature drawings taken from Robert John Thornton’s “The Temple of Flora” on the dials and are created using the artistic crafts of enamelling, guillochage and gem-setting. Each watch has a leather strap in a colour that perfectly complements the flower on the dial and the diamond encrusted bezel only adds to the feminine charm of the collection.

Montblanc

Montblanc’s tribute to the French watchmanker who invented the chronograph – Nicolas Mathieu Rieussec – was the collection named after him and the latest addition to this series was unveiled at the SIHH 2013. Called the Nicolas Rieussec Rising Hours, the watch features two sets of rotating disks that indicate the time of day. The Arabic numerals on the disc are coloured to differentiate between night and day, making it a revolutionary way to tell time. Add to this a classic red-gold case and a brown alligator leather strap, and this piece is definitely has the makings of a classic.

Jaeger-LeCoultre

To mark the 80th year of their classic Reverso watch, Jaeger-LeCoultre have released the Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Duoface. At a thickness of just 9.14 millimetres, the new duoface has two dials that are interchangeable with a smooth pivot. One dial has a silevred satin and opaline finish while the other has a black Clous de Paris motif. This highly versatile piece comes with a rose gold bezel on a black leather strap and is a style statement in itself!
