RackBank Datacenters, a leading data centre platform for cloud, content and large enterprise customers, is setting up a data centre at the Infopark, Cherthala, in Kerala.
Anil Reddy, Chairman, RackBank, and Hrishikesh Nair, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Infopark, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here on Tuesday in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and State Information Technology (IT) Secretary M Sivasankar.
First data centre
RackBank has committed an investment of Rs 1,000 crore in the project over the next eight years in Infopark, an official spokesman said.
Sivasankar said that this is the first time that such a massive data centre is being set up in the state, which would be a great boost for its IT industry as a whole.
“There is a need for world class data centre facilities to meet the growing demands of the Indian market. The State government would extend all support to the RackBank project.”
Discussions with respect to the project had been initiated during #Future IT event held at Kochi in March last, said Arun Balachandran, Chief Minister’s IT Fellow.
Subsequently, the Hi-Power IT Committee from the state had met with the RachBank team in the US. The upcoming data centre would mark a paradigm shift in the annals of Kerala's IT industry.
‘Robust initiative’
Anil Reddy said that his company was excited at investing in Kerala. #Future is a robust initiative to drive innovation from the state to the world at large.
“It fits with our vision to uplift the quality of data centre Infrastructure and to address business ‘demand at scale’ locally and play a part in enabling government and enterprise alike to reach their audience in a reliable and predictive manner.”
Hrishikesh Nair said that the RackBank investment would be a great boost for the local talent in and around Kochi and Alappuzha.
Apart from setting up data centres to host enterprise infrastructure, RackBank plans to also set up a disaster recovery facility for companies in case of data threats due to natural disasters.
