The websites of Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Ltd (TSSPDCL) and its AP counterpart were hacked a couple of days ago, disrupting web services, including online payments.

While the hacking had no bearing on the operations of the TSSPDCL, efforts are on to restore the site at the earliest. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the agency maintaining the web portals, is working round the clock along with TSSPDCL’s information technology wing to get it up and running.

The hackers, who demanded money from the Discom, said they had information about two crore power consumers of the State and threatened to access information on online payments to possibly divert funds.

A complaint had been lodged with Cyber Crime sleuths in Hyderabad. All the computer-based applications were hit.

G Raghuma Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of TSSPDCL, said, “The total data of TSSPDCL is safe and all other day-to-day operations like billing and other internal activities are in operation.”

“There is no impact on customer services like payment of bills in Meeseva, eSeva, departmental counters and spot collection mechanism. Other customer services like new service applications, registrations and restoration of power supply related issues have not been not impacted,” he said.
