Reliance Communications (RCom) has launched IP Centrex, a telephony solution that offers high-quality, feature-rich voice telephony to individual users at the workplace. The addition of IP Centrex further bolsters RCom's Internet Portfolio (IP) voice portfolio.

IP Centrex, which eliminates the need to maintain a PBX and separate voice network within enterprise premises, is a hosted enterprise IP telephony solution powered by an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network core.

The service brings a host of features such as HD Voice, call forwarding to other numbers, personal attendant, conferencing, automatic call repeats and caller notifications, among others. While the service is primarily designed for IP phones, it is also compatible with analogue phones.

“Today’s hyper-connected world demands workplaces to be facilitators of seamless communication, collaboration and flexibility. IP Centrex will play a catalyst’s role in bringing about a unified, converged and easily manageable communications ecosystem for Indian enterprises,” Bill Barney, CEO Reliance Communications & Chairman and CEO of Global Cloud Xchange, said.

“Reliance IP Centrex comes with a rich suite of features, with which the telephone will shed its interruptive character and become interactive, moulding its behaviour in sync with the user’s preferences, location and engagements,” he added.

Enterprises subscribing to the IP Centrex service neither have to invest in a PBX nor maintain a separate voice network for their telephony needs, thereby making significant savings in upfront and operating costs, and reaping the advantages of an integrated IP communications network.

RCom's IP Centrex is built around a sophisticated architectural core for delivering IP multimedia services (IMS Class 5), riding on one of the world’s largest fibre backbones and Metro Ethernet Networks (MEN).

On January 31, 2018, RCom had exited its wireless business-to-customer business and transformed into a pure-play B2B company.

The company is now focussing on the enterprise communications services and data centre space in India, and also has a global submarine cable business, providing enterprise data across continents. Globally, RCom has more than 300 enterprise and carrier customers.
