Buoyant on data growth, Reliance Communications (RCom) has posted a 34 per cent rise in consolidated net profit at ₹177 crore for the first quarter ended June 30.

In comparison, the company had posted a net profit of ₹132 crore during the same quarter a year ago.

Total income During the quarter under review, RCom’s total income rose to ₹5,541 crore from ₹5,523 crore recorded during the same period a year, the company said in a statement.

“Revenues for the quarter have been stable despite a reduction in interconnect usage charges, lower ceiling on roaming tariffs and the onset of seasonality in the first quarter…,” said Gurdeep Singh, Chief Executive Officer (Consumer Business), RCom.

Subscriber movement From early May, RCom’s larger share of migrant and youth subscribers moved out of their home locations, impacting usage and voice revenues, he said, adding, “These subscribers generally come back on the network by early Q2.”

RCom’s total data traffic grew 68 per cent to 92.8 billion MB on a year-on-year basis, on rise in data subscribers and higher data usage per customer.

During the quarter, the company’s total data customer base grew 23.8 per cent on a year-on-year basis to 35.4 million. This includes 17.9 million 3G customers.

Network usage RCom’s minutes of usage (a financial metric) rose 1.8 per cent to 105 billion, while average revenue per user rose 2.0 per cent to ₹140 on a year-on-year basis.

The company’s India operations revenue rose 1.5 per cent to ₹4,791 crore (₹4,718 crore), while global revenues rose 4.1 per cent to ₹1,117 crore (₹1,073 crore).

RCom shares closed 0.83 per cent up at ₹60.90 on the BSE.
