Factory automation company, Rockwell Automation is scaling up its operations in India, with plans to double its design centre headcount.

Talking to BusinessLine , Dilip Sawhney, MD-India, Rockwell Automation, said the company is eyeing the “talent mix” in which can work on its wide range of products across different business segments. The company operates its business globally through two segments—architecture and software, and control products and solutions.

The architecture and software segment contains key elements of the Rockwell Automation control and information platforms, software applications and automation components, while the control products and solutions consists of motor control products and services.

“In India, we currently have 200 people working in the design centre and we are looking to double it in the next four-five years,” said Sawhney.

Sathyavathi Ramaiah, Head Design Centre added that 100 new positions were added recently. “The teams work on testing existing solutions as well as next gen product development,” she said.

The Indian design centre’s capability covers sectors such as automotive, life sciences, oil and gas, food and beverage, amongst others.

“All these sectors are pushing the case for Industry 4.0,” stated Sawhney. Industry 4.0 refers to digitisation of business activities in the manufacturing sector. “The traditional manufacturing business model is changing, new models are emerging and while this is not an overnight phenomenon, companies are bracing for this,” said Sawhney.

Countries like India are trying to cash in on the opportunity. “While we grow, the ecosystem will also grow with us,” according to Sawhney.

This ecosystem consists of partner companies who are expected to ride on the back of manufacturers who are looking at ways to analyse machine conditions in advance, to avoid machine breakdown, which could result in unplanned downtime and wastage, thereby causing losses to industrial equipment manufacturers as they delay production process.
