Samsung today held a formal launch event for the S10 series of smartphones, which includes the S10+, the S10 and the S10e. The S10 marks the tenth anniversary of Galaxy phones from the company.

The three S10 devices have already been up for pre-order online and will be available in retail stores March 8 onwards.

Highlights

The S10+ includes a Dynamic AMOLED 3K resolution screen — described by many as the best display on a smartphone so far — and has the ability to display HDR10+ quality images and video, which its high-end cameras can also capture.

DJ Koh, President and CEO of IT and Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics, here for the launch, spoke to members of the media of the importance of the Indian market for Samsung, describing it as one of the most important markets and one in which consumers were quite “techie”, demanding innovations. “We have been investing a lot (in India). Our local manufacturing started in 2007. Now it is the world’s largest,” he said.

Recent launches

Describing the year gone by as one that was somewhat difficult for Samsung, Koh said that the company’s partners have received the recent launches of the Galaxy M series very well, and welcomed the innovative features, specifically the quad cameras on the pre-flagship A series. “In India, the generation is fast growing, and to meet their needs and broad range of their demands is difficult, but I have changed the organisation to address this, and they are quite happy,” he said. “My investment here and working with my partners and pursuing the next generation of not only our flagship but our A series — I do not want to stop: just keep going.” He described the market in China as being quite different from India’s where a full range of devices was needed. He described competition as always being harsh but that that there was no stopping the company: “From this year, I’m getting quite a good signal, even in China,” he said.

The Galaxy S10+ will be available in 1TB, 512GB and 128GB storage variants and will be offered to consumers at a price of ₹1,17,900, ₹91,900 and ₹73,900. The S10’s 512GB variant is priced at ₹84,900, whereas the 128GB variant is at ₹66,900. The Galaxy S10e comes with only 128GB storage variant. It will be priced at ₹55,900.
