Science, a Los Angeles - based incubator of former Myspace CEO Mike Jones, has acquired an Indian start-up - Pinpuff.

Pinpuff is the ‘Klout’ of Pinterest. It measures users’ influence on Pinterest. Pinpuff calls it ‘Pinfluence’ and says “it is a measure of your popularity on Pinterest and value of your each pin”.

“Pinpuff is a free-to-use tool, aiming to accurately measure Pinterest user's influence, reach and virality on Pinterest, assign a Pinfluence score and monetary values of their pins.

“We aim to help Pinterest users to keep a track of their Pinning activities on daily basis and suggest them possible tips/measures to get maximum out of Pinterest.

The Pinpuff site did not have any announcement, but only said, “News: Pinpuff acquired by Science”.

Science says it “is backed by a group of top institutional and independent investors, which include: Rustic Canyon, White Star Capital, The Social+Capital Partnership, Tomorrow Ventures, Siemer Ventures, Philippe Camus, Jean-Marie Messier, Jonathan Miller and Dennis Phelps.”

Mike Jones, in a blog post said, “We’re pleased today to announce that Science has acquired Pinterest influence and Perk platform, Pinpuff. We will be relocating the founder/CEO from India to our Los Angeles Headquarters.”

The founder/CEO of Pinpuff is Gaurav Sharma, who has already updated his LinkedIn profile city to Los Angeles.

Mike Jones says: “Pinpuff was one of the first technologies to identify Pinterest’s potential as not only a great place to share, but to motivate users to follow each other. The more people unearth great finds, the more likely Pinterest is to drive them beyond the platform to seek out more information or even, ultimately, purchase what they discovered.

“Now that Pinterest is nearly as ubiquitous as Facebook and Twitter, and other platforms like The Fancy and Svpply are rising through the ranks, we can tap into the technology that Pinpuff has built to create a true gauge of reach – one that goes beyond clicks, page views, and static traffic numbers, one that measures the power of influence.”

According to Mike Jones, “Pinterest is the second highest referral network for sales within Science companies”.

“Paired with our internal agency, HelloSociety, we believe Pinpuff will be a great addition to the Science family, and provide additional intelligence and distribution strategy to upcoming Science launches,” Mike Jones says in the blog post.
