The New Media Wing of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting held a social media workshop for government officials on Friday.

This is keeping with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on the use social media for the dissemination of different Government schemes.

About 150 nodal officers from 59 Ministries and Government departments sat down for interactive sessions that dealt with social media communication strategy, engaging through social media, besides analytic and response management.

Officials from key ministries, including Home, Finance and Commerce, were part of this social media workshop. Dedicated sessions were conducted on hands-on Twitter usage, besides explaining the nitty-gritty of Facebook, Youtube and blogging.

I & B Secretary, Bimal Julka, said there is a need for building up communication strategies targeted for masses.

“Internet is fast becoming the main stream, not just in the significant numbers, but also in how fast its seeping into the lives of the people of India,” he said. He urged the ministries to utilise the social media communication hub established under I&B Ministry to reach out to the masses by using social media.

Dissemination

Emphasising on the interactive features of social media, he encouraged to adopt it in the dissemination of different government schemes, policies and programmes for ensuring transparency, and better feedback mechanism for good governance.
