Sony India expects to treble its revenue from smartphone business in 2013-2014.

According to Sachin Thapar, Business Head, Xperia, Sony India, the company’s revenue from smartphone segment is targeted at Rs 3,500 crore in the next fiscal against nearly Rs 1,200 crore in 2012-13.

Launching the Xperia Z smartphone here on Tuesday, Thapar said: “We are betting very big on this product. We will invest Rs 300 crore in promoting the Xperia brand in 2013-14.’’

He added that Sony would not increase the prices of its smartphones due to the Budget proposal to hike duties on phones priced above Rs 2,000. “We have factored this while pricing our products,’’ he said.
