Tata Communications, a leading digital infrastructure provider, says cyber security business has been growing rapidly for the company due to worldwide interest across enterprise categories – small, medium and large.

“Cyber security business has been growing at the rate of 50 per cent plus for us,” CR Srinivasan, Chief Digital Officer, Tata Communications, said during the launch of company’s new Cyber Security Response Centre (CSRC) by Rama Vedashree, CEO, Data Security Council of India, in Chennai on Thursday.

The Chennai CSRC is part of the series of centres the company has built. Tata Communications has already opened such centres in Pune, Dubai, Singapore and is planning to launch such infrastructure in Europe and the US soon. “As a strategy, we want to be as local as the customers,” he said.

The combined staff strength of its cyber security centres is about 350 and the company is planning to increase it to 500. Every facility will typically have 35-50 people depending upon the size of the business.

Chennai centre is a bigger one with a capacity to seat 100 people as the city is the hub for the cyber security work that Tata Communications has been doing.

CSRC-Chennai showcases confluence of multiple expertises of different domains in order to offer proper cyber security implementation for companies. It will also provide an experience on some of the new technologies in this area.

“A lot of what we are doing in this centre is around cloud and cloud security and the overall cyber security. The team will also be working on advanced analytics. Our cyber security solutions cater to medium to large-sized enterprises at this point of time,” said Srinivasan.

The software capabilities and other technical expertise in CSRC have been created largely by the in-house technical team though there may be some third-party products in the mix.

The company had set aside an investment of $50 million for this business.
