In its attempt to drive digital adoption across group companies, Tata Sons has appointed Aarthi Subramanian to a newly-created post of Chief Digital Officer. Subramanian will up take up the new role in August.

Subramanian, who will report to Tata Sons’ Executive Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, is a Tata group veteran with more than 26 years with the company. She had started her career with Tata Consultancy Services and worked in diverse roles in India, Sweden, the US and Canada.

Currently, an executive director at TCS, she is responsible for driving the company’s digital foray, excellence in customer engagement and delivery governance. She has been also responsible for leading key initiatives like digital, agile and operational excellence in TCS.

Subramanian will continue to serve on TCS’ board as a non-executive director, the company said in a statement.

“As the Group Chief Digital Officer, she will play a key role in driving digital adoption across group companies. Having worked with Aarthi for many years, I know that her experience and commitment will be valuable in building a Tata group that is ready to rise in the digital economy,” Tata Sons Executive Chairman N Chandrasekaran said.

After taking over as Chairman, Chandrasekaran had roped in former Birla strategist and investment banker Saurabh Agrawal as the group Chief Financial Officer. Another major appointment was that of Shuva Mandal as Group General Counsel, replacing Bharat Vasani, who retires next year.
