"To bring down the volume of duplicate mobiles and SIMs, telecom sector is in the process of setting up the central equipment identity register, " Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan told reporters on Thursday.

Talking on the sidelines of Global Conference on Cyber Space (GCCS), 2017, Sundarajan said Indian government is one of the most procative when it comes to cyber security, adding that lot of initiatives have been taken by the govt in the past 4-5 months.

Emphasising on the importance of partnering with the private sector for cyber security, she said, "It is the area where malign and malicious elements are always one or two steps ahead of govt and industry, therefore, the govt has to partner with the private sector to ensure that we do enough".

India is hosting the fifth edition of Global Conference on Cyber Space 2017. With the aim to provide safe, secure and sustainable digital future, the two-day event was inuagurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 23.
