The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Chairman has said the body will come out with its recommendations next week on the proposed new policies for telecom infrastructure and to encourage telecom equipment manufacturing in India.
“We have plans to come up with recommendations on telecom infrastructure and manufacturing next week,” the TRAI Chairman, Mr J.S. Sarma, told reporters today.
The authority floated a consultation paper on the telecom infrastructure policy in January 2011, and it was closed with the final comments of stakeholders on February 21.
TRAI started the process for coming up with recommendations on encouraging telecom equipment manufacturing in the country from May 6, 2010, by floating a pre-consultation paper and subsequently, a consultation paper on December 28, 2010.
Mr Sarma added that the authority will float a consultation paper on next generation telecommunication network within the next two to three months.
