TravelMart launches portal for group-buying

With package tours catching up, a significant lot – both young and old — today network and wrap up their travel plans well in advance.

TravelMartIndia, in the travel and leisure business for nearly two decades now, decided to take advantage of this trend by launching a group-buying travel and leisure destination portal — www.vamoose.in.

Claiming Vamoose as India's first group-buying portal, its Managing Director, Mr Manoj Gursahani, said the concept of group-buying has seen enormous success in the West. “It is catching up in India as well.”

The portal was launched around mid-March and according to Mr Gursahani, it had snapped attractive deals within 10 days, selling on an average 20 packages a day.

“Since the entire selling model is based on high volume of sales, Vamoose is able to offer its customers — even stray visitors to the Web site — large discounts. On offer will be a range of special packages from weekend getaways to hill-stations to long national and international vacations. We are in talks with a number of travel, hospitality and leisure companies offering special deals that will be marketed by Vamoose. As we progress, we will build relationship with vendors too,” he said.

Speaking about the group-buying business model, he said “We will send out newsletter[s] for new deals everyday. Members will have about a week or so to purchase their vouchers and these would be valid for six months or so. They will be able to get the price benefit for buying as a group of say five, 10 or 15, while retaining the flexibility of travelling at their convenience within the validity period.”

The platform has been developed by UK-based technology company El Media and will be run by them, he said.

Elaborating on the marketing initiative, he said, “we use the social media marketing channels such as Facebook and Linkedin for customer acquisition. This is not only cost effective, but allows us to pass maximum benefit to our customers. We are in a position to offer end-to-end travel services,” he added.
