Social media platform Twitter on Wednesday released findings from a survey, stating that over 90 per cent of eligible first-time voters said they would vote in the upcoming general elections in India.
According to the survey, over 80 per cent of the first-time voters said that they would use social media to stay in tune with current affairs in India and the world.
According to Twitter, 72 per cent of the first time voters surveyed believed that they are contributing to public discourse by posting on the platform. Close to 55 per cent also said that they would use Twitter to raise support for a movement and about 54 per cent said they would use the micro-blogging site to express their opinion.
These findings, part of Twitter’s #Powerof18 initiative, are from a larger survey that Twitter conducted in September-October 2018 with 4,274 people in India aged between 18 and 35.
