Ugam Solutions has joined hands with PSG College of Technology and Polytechnic to co-create retail and analytics talent.
“Engineering students are generally good in technical skills. What they lack is application of the same in business context. We are trying to address this gap,’’ said Sunil Mirani, Chief Executive Officer, Ugam Solutions.
Referring to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Ugam Solutions and PSG recently, he said that this agreement aims to expand student training opportunities by creating an industry elective for retail and analytics.
This business-based elective is expected to prepare the students for specific skills and marketable skills in retail fields, he added.
The partners to the agreement are working out the details of the programme.
Meanwhile, Mr Mirani told Business Line that this was the first time the company had taken such a leap by working towards developing a programme. “We will start offering the elective from December and to students who have an interest in the domain.’’
“We are not merely looking for candidates with good technical skills. We need multi-disciplinary skills team. The student should be able to understand the retail business, product pricing and what influences pricing decision among others,’’ he added.
To a query on hiring, he said: “Ours is not ‘people’ model. We only need few good men. We are excited about the market potential here.’’
