US-based technology firm Redmorph has launched its mobile security Android app for the Indian smartphone user.

Titled “The Ultimate Privacy and Security Solution”, the app assess the risk for each app installed and gives granular control over what apps such as browsers can do on the device.

The extent of intrusions, tracking, malware and inter-app spying that makes up part of the experience of using a smartphone or tablet is of massive proportions. Users will not know when and how they are being tracked nor what to do about it. Not only is a user tracked every second, apps spy on each other to tap into data. Data brokers also add to the mix leading to your data being shared across sites and apps.

Redmorph’s security app goes beyond the anti-virus or VPN apps available. It includes a firewall and tracks the network activity of apps to see which permissions and being violated. A list and visualisation and show the user what the apps are doing.

The security app curtails the stealing of data without compromising the user’s core experience. Phishing, inter-app spying, malware intrusions, bitcoin mining malware etc is monitored and alerts are go out to the user. Not all of these features are in action yet, but will be within the next few weeks. The privacy conversation in India is at a pivotal juncture as data has transformed to the status of digital DNA.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch, Abhay Edlabadkar, Founder & CEO, Redmorph, said: “Consumers today are finding it difficult to make informed decisions, allowing apps multiple permissions to access data due to permission fatigue. This could lead to misuse of user data,”

The Ultimate Privacy and Security Solution works on a subscription basis. Users need to pay ₹50 a month to use it.

While a 21-day trial period is planned, it isn’t in place at the time of launch on the Play Store. “The job ahead of us is clearly to raise awareness and explain the utility of the protection we’re trying to provide,” said Edlabadkar, saying that the app will also soon be downloadable from the Redmorph website on a trial basis. The app is still in the process of being launched in India. A subscription can also be cancelled with the amount being refunded.
