Vodafone India has invested ₹208 crore in Kerala circle in the last fiscal for network expansion and retail transformation in the state.

Abhijit Kishore, Business Head – Kerala, said that the company has added over 150 new sites, 1,400 retail outlets and taken the mobile money transfer service M-Pesa deeper into the migrant pockets to engage closely with a diverse customer base. With this expansion, the company now reaches out to customers in over 1,530 towns and villages.

The company with 97 per cent penetration has been taking a series of activities at the ground level to increase awareness and adoption of data services. This has resulted in data revenues rising at a growth rate of 75 per cent contributing to the extent of 14 per cent of total service revenues in the circle, he told reporters here on Wednesday.

With more than 72 lakh subscriber base in Kerala circle by adding 5.3 lakh customers in the last one year, Kishore said the company is currently having a revenue share of 22 per cent out of the service revenue of ₹494 crore by the end of fourth quarter.

Vodafone through an intra circle roaming arrangement with other operators is also ensuring 3G roaming service across 1,000 towns and villages in the State. However, the usage of 3G-enabled handset is only 25 per cent on the company’s network, he said that the growing popularity of smart phones has led to a rise in demand for high speed data services.
