Wipro has realigned its Global Media and Telecom (GMT) business as its chief executive Ayan Mukerji has decided to quit.

The GMT business will have a new structure with its sub-vertical, communication services, carved out into a strategic business unit with Vice-President Anil Jain as its head, India’s third largest software exporter said in a statement.

Mukerji, after 28 years at Wipro, has decided to pursue a career outside the company, a Wipro spokesperson said. While Jain will report to Wipro Chief Operating Officer Abidali Neemuchwala, the media vertical will be clubbed with retail, consumer goods, transportation and government verticals for better synergies, the statement added.

The GMT business posted a sequential growth of 4.4 per cent in the second quarter. This vertical contributed 13.4 per cent to Wipro's revenues in the September quarter.

Similarly, the Network Equipment Providers (NEP) vertical will be aligned with the Manufacturing and Hi-Tech business unit, the statement said. The Product Engineering Business will report to Neemuchwala.

This is Wipro’s second rejig in the last few days. Last week, Wipro elevated Shaji Farooq as President and Chief Executive of the banking and financial services vertical.

He joined the Group Executive Council along with three other presidents — energy and utilities head Anand Padmanabhan, global infrastructure head GK Prasanna, and head of application services and strategic alliances Bhanumurthy BM.
