As appetite for video content shoots up in India, YouTube says the firm is committed to address the issue of obscene content on the video streaming site. It says it has a team to keep an eye on the content, conforming to the guidelines.
The website, which lets people post videos and run channels, has recently begun an activity to equip the local content creators with necessary skills on producing content that can help them attract more viewers.
As part of its global initiative, YouTube has begun a pop-up Space here inviting about 800 content creators to teach them how to create attractive visual content.
“Over 50 creators in the country have hit the milestone of 10 lakh subscribers and thousands of creators have crossed the one-lakh subscriber mark,” Lance Podell, Global Head of YouTube Spaces, has said.
Among Top-10David Macdonald, Head of YouTube Spaces Asia Pacific, said that India has emerged Top-10 market for site, as it witnessed a growth of 95 per cent year-on-year in terms of content uploaded.
Citing the examples of TeluguOne, viva, ChaiBisket and Khelpedia, Podell said young content creators have been redefining entertainment offerings on YouTube.
The three-day event, which began at the Ramoji Film City on Thursday, would have training sessions on the fundamentals of production and strategies used by successful YouTube creators. It would also have hands-on workshops to enhance their presence on Google and YouTube to help them expand their reach.
The online video community site has set up a permanent ‘YouTube Space’ at the Whistling Woods campus in Mumbai in 2015. This facility helped in production of over 500 videos.
Asked whether the site has any plans to run the pop-up Spaces across the country, Podell has not indicated any specific plan and said that it was in the process of chalking out plan for the coming year.
