A surge in the share price of some of the major banks like SBI, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank lifted the NSE Bank Nifty by nearly 400 points an hour before the market was to close today.
The positive mood of the market rubbed on the bank stocks with all the 12 bank stocks forming the CNX Bank Nifty trading in the green.
SBI was the biggest gainer with the stock surging by ₹56.25 to ₹2,522.65. It was closely followed by ICICI Bank that gained ₹39.05 to trade at ₹1,499.60. HDFC Bank shares gained ₹28.75 to trade at ₹887.60 and IndusInd Bank shares were up by ₹20.75 to ₹666.10. Canara Bank shares moved up by ₹12.75 to trade at ₹384.40.
The gains made by other bank shares were in single digits. The bank index was up by 397.35 points.
